The July event, Kentucky Ramble, saw several novice teams join our ranks. So many that we were able to offer Novice and Experienced classes. It was a great drive thru scenic Kentucky brought to us by Lee Grimes. Many thanks to him for getting this together while enduring a grueling work schedule and related travel. The results are listed below.
In our Experienced Class, the team of Gordon & Teresa Benson brought home yet another win. They are intent on defending their championship position from the 2017 season. Rounding out the Experienced Class were EB Lunken & Chris Cann in second, Steve & Makayla Munday in third, Jim Knepper & Doreen Fallon in fourth, and Tim Silver & Sue Malcolm in fifth. The Novice Class boasted a tie for first place between Walt & Brian Fischer and Todd & Jennifer Koerner. Finishing behind them was another tie of Anthony Bodnarik & Jennifer Vandergriff and Bruce & Marita Kreutzer. Rounding out the Novice Class were the teams of Barb & Dave Kise and John Holtzeiter & Robert Davis. Eleven teams in all, a very good showing for this popular event, and a narrow range of points earned.
REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN SOON FOR THE AUGUST 25th EVENT. What we have planned for this one is a totally different experience. The plan, still in the works at this point, is to provide you with a map and a list of Cincinnati Landmarks. You will set your own course, take pictures an the stops and return to the starting point with the lowest mileage. We will be starting and ending at Alms Park, where we will enjoy a picnic with those members not willing to adventure out with us. (Hint hint – don’t be afraid; come join us). Check us out on FaceBook for picnic updates. Visit cincyscca.motorsportreg.com for links to the registration sites for all the Cincinnati Region events. Remember, if you need to be paired up with a running partner, let us know and we’ll do our best.
For those new to the sport, Road Rallies are run on public roads at legal (sometimes brisk) speeds on a variety of roads. Route instructions can be challenging but if you are careful you will NOT get lost. Any street licensed vehicle capable of accommodating a driver and a navigator who can communicate safely (so probably not a motorcycle) from a smart car to a pickup truck are eligible and kids are welcome. Penalty points are given for incorrect answers to questions that can be answered by making observations along the route. Low score wins. Awards are presented for each event and points are assigned based on finishing position to determine a series champion.
The schedule as it now stands is as follows:
Date | Rally Master |
---|---|
April 14 | EB Lunken |
May 26 | Jim Knepper |
June 16 | Colleen Cabe |
July 21 | Lee Grimes |
August 25 | Jim Wiles |
October 6 | Gordon Benson |
November 3 | TBD |
One more date is still available if you’d like to set up a rally. Assistance can be provided. We are always happy to hear any ideas you have for a fun drive. Contact me to volunteer or if you have questions.
