Solo Report – Good (Reaction) Times, Great Courses

Our second event weekend is in the books with a sold-out Test & Tune on Saturday and Points Event 2 on Sunday that saw 138 drivers competing on a very fast course that started quite differently than usual.

To help out testing the National ProSolo trailer and timing equipment, we ran a hybrid ProSolo-style start with two separate lanes that merged into a single course just after the 60 foot mark. Each car made two of their runs in the right lane and another three runs in the left lane with the best of their five total runs scored as the top time.

The first two heats of the day were forced to deal with cool and overcast conditions before the sun finally appeared during heat three and stayed out through the end of heat four.

CAM-S saw the largest car count with 19 drivers turning in times, but it was once again Jamie Elliott (No. 77) sweeping the day with a class win, fastest raw time, and fastest PAX time. Second place went to Travis Clark (No. 11) with Chandler Roe (No. 5) rounding out the top three in class.

A hotly-contested Pro class saw the lead change with nearly every pass, but ultimately it was Chris Rudy (No. 1 FS) taking the top spot from Myke Dziengel (No. 6 BST) in second and Steven Duran (No. 197 CSM) in third.

A sizable 12-car Street Open class was won by Christian Moist (No. 27 CS), while Alex Kruetzkamp (No. 22 HS) scored his second consecutive second-place finish, and Brandon Porambo (No. 42 DS) finished the day in third.

Street Touring Open had some extremely close competition despite a small car count with the entire class separated by roughly seven tenths of a second. Cody Mills (No. 39 CST) scored top honors, but second-place Nick Isaac (No. 5 CST) put forth a heroic effort after having mechanical issues in his S2000 and finishing the heat co-driving Cody Mills’ GR86. Josh Smith (81 GST) rounded out the top three.

Xtreme Street A saw several very fast and very different platforms represented across the top three. Third place was won by Brandon Sewell (No. 67) in his AWD Subaru STi, while second place went to Phillip Bowman (No. 43) in a FWD Ford Focus ST. Ultimately it was Danny Popp (No. 10) in the hybrid Chevrolet Corvette ERay taking his second class win of the season.

Novice Street was won by Andrew Freitas (No. 4 BS), while Novice Modified’s podium consisted of Alex Black (No. 14 DST) in third, Brian Roberts (No. 2 EST) in second, and Lucas Munday (No. 11 GST) in first.

Lastly, a tremendous amount of thanks and recognition are due to the incredible folks who put in work on making both events run as smoothly as they did. Set up, tear down, registration, timing and scoring, everything was stressed to the limit but still managed to deliver a top-notch event as usual. We truly could not do what we do without those folks, especially with the amount of moving pieces involved in this past event.

We return to our regularly scheduled programming with Points Event 3 on May 31st, just after our annual AutoX 101 novice school on May 30th.
