Race Report

Don’t forget to mark your 2024 calendar for the Double Divisional, Todd Cholmondeley ITSpec*tacular races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 13-14. Exact track times and groupings are not yet set, but some highlights are:

  • Compete on both the club and the pro course configurations
  • The divisional races on Saturday and Sunday count for the GLD Divisional Championship
  • They are also qualifying races for the run-offs, this year at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI.
  • Time permitting, there will be a one-hour bracket race, where drivers with cars of any class compete against each other, based on the “time bracket” they have posted in their regular class groupings
  • Exclusive session of ITB, ITC, and B-Spec cars, for an exciting and very competitive race each day
  • Possibility of early end time on Sunday so you can get home earlier
  • Similar trophies to 2023 and 2022 – Acrylic plaque with wooden stand (must claim at the track), and personalized plaque to be mailed after the event

Volunteer opportunities.

I have been told by countless volunteer workers that this is THE race to come to. We always try to make it as special as possible. We can always use help to support the racers and get you up close and personal with the cars and drivers or get you out on a corner where the action is. We’ll also feed the volunteers lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner on Saturday. In fact, if you have entered and run in the Friday

Track Event, stick around to work on Saturday and/or Sunday. You will earn a $25/day rebate on your entry fee. Other races at Mid-Ohio are May 17-19, August 10-11, and October 12-13. If you want to be involved and try out different specialties, email roadrace@cincyscca.com  and I’ll get you hooked up with a chief.

Registration will open in the spring.

Race Report

The road race schedule for 2024 is set. Once again Cincinnati Region will host the Todd Cholmondeley ITSpec*tacular Double Regional Race weekend, this year on July 13th and 14th, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Racers will have an opportunity to compete on both the club and the pro course configurations. The divisional races on Saturday and Sunday count for the Divisional Championship and are qualifying races for the run-offs, this year at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. On-track sessions start at 8am with qualifying, with some racing before the lunch break and continuing throughout the afternoon on Saturday. Wrapping up the on-track activities, scheduling and time permitting, is a one-hour bracket race, where drivers with cars of any class compete against each other, based on the “time bracket” they have posted in their regular class groupings. We’ll wrap it up earlier on Sunday to give racers a chance to load up and start their trek home.

Once again, we are bringing you an exclusive session of ITB, ITC, and B-Spec cars. They are usually grouped with many other classes. This will afford them the opportunity to showcase their cars and their driving skills on their own. It was a great race in 2023 and I’m looking forward to watching this group again in 2024! Hopefully this will be a continuing arrangement, and I expect to see the group getting bigger every year.

On Friday, July 12th, you can take your daily driver, or any other car you can get your hands on, out on course without fear of a speeding ticket. Never done this before? A little apprehensive? We will provide you with a driver coach to help guide you until you are comfortable with running solo. A seasoned veteran? Choose the Advanced Group, which allows you less restrictive passing rules. Have a race prepared car but no competition license? Run on Friday and stay over for a 1-hour bracket race on Saturday afternoon for wheel-to-wheel racing.

Want to participate with a reduced or no entry fee? Come to the Awards/Member Appreciation banquet on February 3rd at Receptions in Fairfield. A free Track Event and $200 discount coupon will be included in the door prizes.

Road Race Report

Plans are coming together for our July 30 – August 1 Race weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. We are offering a full menu of regional road racing, as well as an opportunity to put your street legal or solo car on the track. We are expanding into the Time Trial option this year, and there is also an opportunity to participate in a 1-hour wheel to wheel race in your safety prepared car – even if you don’t have a competition license. With the relaxation of Covid restrictions, we expect to be able to provide in car coaches for novices.

We are always looking for volunteers to help with administration and also in the race support specialties, such as flagging, timing and scoring and grid. If driving fast is not your thing, but being around those who are driving fast is, this is your place to be. It’s fun to get up close and personal with the cars and drivers. Expectation is we will be able to have our traditional worker picnic with live entertainment.

Road Race Report

I am currently volunteering as a worker at a race weekend at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan. As I’m taking a break from positioning cars on the false grid, I am reminded of the reasons I do this, which in no particular order include the sounds, the smells, the bone rattling vibration of standing next to a big bore car warming up before its session, and being with the friends I’ve made over the years. The excitement of watching a good on track battle, the anticipation before a race and the pure joy on the faces of the racers as they come off track after a good race are additional perks.

You WANT to be there. Trust me on this. There are many ways to do it with Cincy Region. Come to a SOLO (autocross) event or two and get your feet wet. Then put your car-solo prepared or daily driver-on the track at Mid-Ohio for our region’s event July 30-August 1. Come to work. There are lots of places to get behind the scenes and over the fence. Come to race or come to watch. Come to hang with friends and make new ones.

It’s cold and windy here today. And even if there was liquid sunshine dripping on us too, it’s still a better place to be than anywhere else.
