What an incredible summer of events we have had so far this year with Solo, Rally and our annual Race & Track Event weekend at Mid-Ohio! Support with entries for all of our opportunities to have fun with cars in our region has been fantastic! A big shout out to our members that chair and organize these activities and their committees that make the events rock. Have you been enjoying these activities and thought “what makes these events tick?” or “can I get involved in making these events better?” and the resounding answer is “YES!” you can get involved and we are always actively looking for people to learn the “tricks of the trade”! Cincinnati Region has a long history of putting on great events and to continue our mission for the best quality events in the SCCA, WE NEED YOU! Please feel free to talk to one of our event chairs, committee members or myself anytime to set up a time to talk in more depth about our activities and how you can participate on another level!

September also takes the competition to the top of the national level with the Solo Nationals out in Lincoln, Nebraska (9/-10) and the National Championship Runoffs this year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (9/25-10/3). We have many Cincinnati members that have qualified and will be heading out to these events later this month! SAFE TRAVELS and GOOD LUCK to everyone going. If you can’t be there in person to watch, the next best thing is to watch online! Make sure to check out SCCA.COM for schedule updates and to view the events online.

Hello Cincinnati Region SCCA Members and friends of the Region,

Spring is in the air and our event schedule is getting packed! With the most updated events calendar showing much more promise than it did a year ago as we were dealing with the “new realities” of our coronavirus lives. Updates are in this newsletter on the events we’ve already completed in 2021 with our Solo & Rally programs. It is with extreme sadness in my heart to inform you of the passing of one of our great members, Dennis Barnes. Dennis was a Cincinnati SCCA member over the last 25+ years. Dennis touched many people over the years and was a friendly competitor, resource, talent, volunteer and mentor to so many people. For many, many years Dennis was a licensed Safety Steward and supported our Solo & Track events. Personally, over the years with his Fiero’s and Miata’s, I’ll remember the caravans to solo events out of town, working together on the trailer(s), figuring out how to scrape seconds of time off of an old miata 🙂 Riding shotgun in his crazy modified tow vehicle, Dennis was never afraid of an aftermarket part that could help get better performance out of his truck 🙂 Lot’s of memories and fortunate to have them. Dennis will be missed dearly by our Cincinnati SCCA family. Final checkers are in your honor Dennis, we’ll miss you.

With that I hope everyone is as eager as I am to get outside and enjoy the fellowship of our brother/sister car enthusiasts as soon as you are ready to come on out. Take care and see you soon!

Hello Cincinnati Region SCCA Members & Friends! It’s wintertime and most of us have cold tires and engines yearning to get moving. But we have had some members recently venture south with some great success! Rob & Doris Bax spent some quality time in Florida as Rob championed his B-Spec Mini Cooper at SCCA Majors Events. With 2 races at Homestead-Miami Speedway he took away 1st & 3rd place trophies including winning a pole and a new track record! The following weekend at Sebring International Raceway brought a pair of highly contested 4th place finishes. If you had a chance to watch and listen to the broadcast on scca.com it was some exciting racing. Congrats Rob!

Also new this month you will find an article from our new Area 4 National Board of Director Dayle Frame! Dayle has offered to periodically update the regions in Great Lakes Division as to what is happening on the national level with his new responsibilities. We should look forward to this great new line of communication from our National Board representative.

The covid pandemic has recently reached some of our very dear members and friends. I want to extend well wishes to those on behalf of their friends here in Cincinnati Region and hope for a strong recovery. Spring will be here before we know it and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Happy New Year Cincinnati Region SCCA!

As we begin to see the light of 2021, we can reflect with a heavy sigh of somber reflection and the sobering reality of the year that was 2020. All of our lives have dramatically changed from what our hope and expectations were a year ago at this time. Our SCCA region was able to pull together and utilize the resourcefulness of our membership to still host Solo’s, Rally’s and a Road Race event with every obstacle imaginable to surpass. I’m very proud of our volunteers that stepped up into roles to make these events successful! The pandemic is not over and may not be for awhile, but we now have a road map to host responsible events and look forward to a fantastic 2021!
I hope everyone has a safe start to the new year and we look forward to announcing our 2021 Season very soon.

Our November meeting wrapped up our regular Board/Member meetings for 2020, our next meeting will be Tuesday January 19th, 2021 and details will come after the new year as to where and how it will take place, Our events have wound down for 2020 but lot’s of planning is going on for 2021 in hopes that the merciless pandemic will eventually be behind us. Our latest Cincinnati SCCA Board/Member Meeting on October 20th produced our ballot for the 2021 Cincinnati SCCA Officer Elections on NOVEMBER 17th, 2020. The position and candidates on the ballot for 2021 are as follows and are running unopposed:

Speaking of elections, there is another important election I want to remind you about. NO, not that one! This is the election of our new NATIONAL BOARD of DIRECTOR for AREA 4. This person represents our SCCA area which includes the Great Lakes Division on the SCCA National Board of Directors for a 3 year term. The candidates for this position are Dayle Frame (click here for info) and Marcus Meredith (click here for info). This election is being conducted electronically thru your log-in at the my.scca.com website. If you have not yet created your log-in for this website (you will need your member number), no problem. Just go thru the process of creating your log-in and then when you have completed your log-in look for the tab for MEMBER RESOURCES. At the bottom of that tab you will find a link titled SURVEYS AND VOTING. Click on that link and you will find the option to vote for our Area 4 Director. If you have any trouble logging in to the my.scca.com website, please contact Member Services Department at membership@scca.com.

We have also secured a date for our Cincinnati Region Annual Awards Banquet for FEBRUARY 6th, 2021. Once again it will be at the Fairfield Receptions Event Center in Fairfield. Thank you everyone for your continued support of your club during these unprecedented times. The leadership provided by our event teams this year has been incredible. There is a quote I have hanging in my office by James Lane Allen that reads “Adversity does not build character… it reveals it“. This was proven true by the team we were fortunate to have this year that worked tirelessly to plan, organize and implement successful events for our membership in the face of the current pandemic. Let’s hope for an even better 2021!

Hello Cincinnati Region members and friends! I hope everyone has been able to have a safe and adventurous (as Covid will allow) summer so far. As we start to see the finish line of our 2020 event season, I would like to send a big thank you to all of you that have and been able to participate in one of our events this year be it solo, rally or autocross. And to those that are taking a breaking from 2020, rest assured that when the time is right and the pandemic is over we look forward to seeing EVERYONE again! And enough cannot be said for your region leaders and volunteers that organize and run our events, many hats off!

Your Cincinnati Board of Directors had our August meeting last month via Zoom on 8/18 and our plan is to have our next meeting on September 15th in the same manner. If you have any questions that you would like to have addressed by the board, please email them to me at re@cincyscca.com and we will answer and either reply back to you or post the answers on our Facebook page. Also, we will be discussing options at our next meeting regarding our 2021 election of officers which normally follows the process of nominations at our October meeting and Elections at our November meeting. Since we are under restrictions still for large gatherings we will talk about options for what we will/can do for this pandemic year. If you have heard from members of other surrounding regions, the plans for their 2021 officer elections (if they have them) are far and wide. We will keep you up to date and if you are interested in running for a position, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or a member of the board!
