RoadRally Report

Planning is continuing for the 2021 rally season. Tentative dates are April 10, May 8, June 12, August 14, September 18, and October 23. Meanwhile, you can gain some insight into the behind-the-scenes operation of road rally by “attending” Convention sessions online. Since the world has now gone virtual, you too can participate in the seminars for FREE. You must be a member and have established an account on the my.scca.com website, download a couple apps and join the live streams. Rally sessions are on Mondays – the 1st, 8th, and 15th. If you are new to road rally, see what our program is all about at CincySCCA.com/Road-Rally/.

RoadRally Report

Tulip, Poker, Fox and Hound, Trap, Magic Mile, Trek. What do these things have in common? They are all terms that can be applied to a Road Rally. Want to find out what they mean? Come join us for a rally in 2021. We’re going to plan like it’s 2019 and hope it’s not like 2020. We’d like to get back to a full schedule and especially get back to socializing at the end of the drive. We made things work with an abbreviated schedule this year, had lots of new participants, and explored some fun roads. Scheduling is in process and will be posted when it is tentatively final (oxymoron much?)
Kudos to the Rally Masters who gave their time to set up routes this year. In order of appearance – Lee Grimes, Jim Knepper, Jim Walls, and today’s co Masters EB Lunken and David Vornholt. If you want to join the ranks as a Rally Master or just suggest some cool roads or interesting areas, let us know and we will give you any help you need.

RoadRally Report

Today ended the 2020 rally season. It was a simply gorgeous day for a drive thru Southern Ohio/Northern Kentucky. We were able to even have a bit more socializing than we have had at other events this year, with masks and distancing of course. 13 cars started and 12 finished. We lost one team due to motion sickness, but all had a good time. We counted yard signs as votes for the presidential election, and it looks like Trump squeaked by Biden in our small part of the country. No opinion rendered here and hardly scientific, but it was just for fun. Overall winner was a newcomer to our group and was just going to drive the route sans navigator, or so I thought. Since I did that myself, I was OK with that. However, he managed to even answer most of the questions correctly and finished 1 point ahead of 2nd with just 3 ½ points. Full results will be posted to the website in the near future.
I want to take this time to thank all the Rally Masters who gave their time to set up routes this year, which allowed us to have a shortened and somewhat altered, but very enjoyable season. In order of appearance – Lee Grimes, Jim Knepper, Jim Walls, and today’s co Masters EB Lunken and David Vornholt. It takes considerable time to lay out a rally and run it multiple times. Personally, I enjoy doing just that maybe even more than being a competitor. If you want to join the ranks as a Rally Master, the door is open to you. Just let us know and we will give you any help you need. I am sure there are roads you know just waiting for us.

RoadRally Report

Well, it’s 2020 – bringing us everchanging situations. Our April rally, rescheduled to October 3, then to October 10, is now going to be on October 31. You should be home in plenty of time for Trick or Treat or a party. We’ll be starting and ending in New Richmond, Ohio. The route is a bit over 90 miles and goes thru southern Ohio, over the river, around northern Kentucky, ON the river, and back into Ohio.

This will be the last rally of the year. Hopefully next year we will be able to maintain our normal schedule without juggling dates. Come join us for this fall drive. It will be a good one.

RoadRally Report

We had a glorious day to take a “Drive in the Appalachian Foothills” last Saturday. Ten teams participated, including 2 first timers and 3 other novice teams. Everyone finished. Everyone had fun. Everyone did very well. No teams missed more than 3 questions. We visited 4 covered bridges and teams found up to ten “Barn Quilts” along the twisty hilly country roads. Complete results can be found on the website at cincyscca.com. Rally Master, Jim Wiles, found some great roads and threw in some quirky twists in the questions that had everyone running all over the streets of Russellville at the same time looking for answers. What a trickster!
Come join us for the next road rally, currently planned to be on Saturday, October 10, starting and ending in New Richmond, Ohio. Registration for the event will be open soon, and meanwhile you can sign up on MotorSportReg to make sure you get an email when registration is open. If you have already run with us, you are already on the email list!

Road Rally Report

On July 11 we move north to run “Middletown Madness”, with Jim Knepper as your Rally Master. We will start at Bob Evans and end at Applebee’s off Rt 122 at I75. We will not be meeting as a group at Bob Evans for breakfast, but you may come early to eat if you choose. We DO plan to meet inside Applebee’s at the end of the drive. We have checked it out and there is a section that will allow us to be socially distanced from any other patrons and from each other. You may stay and eat or drop your answers off and leave, depending on your comfort level. Onsite registration and check in will start at 9:30, with a safety meeting at 10:15. First car out will follow the meeting at about 10:30. Registration at CincySCCA.MotorsportReg.com will open soon. You can register now to receive an email notice when it is open.
