RoadRace: [Cancelled] Todd Cholmondeley IT Spec*Tacular

To our Road Racing members and friends that support our annual Todd Cholmondeley IT Spec*Tacular at Mid-Ohio. As you are probably aware by now our race weekend date this year was bumped for the newly rescheduled date of the IndyCar Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio that was moved up to make room for the rescheduled Indianapolis 500 later in August.

Unfortunately the rescheduling option offered to us would not work with the currently scheduled events for Great Lakes Division SCCA in 2020. So it is with much regret and heavy heart we have to announce the cancelling of the 2020 Todd Cholmondeley IT Spec*Tacular at Mid-Ohio. But we do plan to return in 2021 bigger and better than ever! We thank you for your support and ask that you consider following the 2020 Great Lakes Division schedule (www.gldscca.com/regional) and support the other events that we hope will be racing later this year!

Thank you, Be Safe & Stay Well!

Christy Graham, Cincinnati Region SCCA Race Chair
Tony Brown, Cincinnati Region SCCA R.E.

Race Report

There have been changes made to the Mid-Ohio race schedule this year. We no longer have the August 7-9 weekend available to us to go play. It saddens us very much and the whole race season is in jeopardy at this point. Updates will be provided as decisions are made.

Meanwhile, Race Committee meetings are suspended.

Please take care, stay home if you can, and be on the lookout for updates.

Race Report

Do you have your car ready for tech inspection? Competition licensed drivers probably know what to do. But did you know you can join us on the Mid-Ohio track with everything from your daily driver to fully equipped race/safety compliant car EVEN if you don’t have anything more than a state issued driver’s license? Well you can. There are several options open to you on our weekend of August 7-9. Need a driver coach? You’re covered. Ready to go it alone? Can do. Want to BE a driver coach? Let’s talk-you’re welcome. Want to ogle fancy cars? They’ll be there too.

Besides being on track there is plenty to do at the track to help Cincinnati Region put on a great event – as much or as little as you want to do. We’ll feed volunteer workers lunch Saturday & Sunday and have a picnic Saturday night with lots Jell-O “desserts”.

The annual meeting of the leaders of the Great Lakes Division is coming up in early March. Some additional details will be worked out there. Look for a registration page at CincySCCA.MotorsportReg.com shortly thereafter. More details will be available soon on the website cincyscca.com.

If you wish to join us at planning and preparation meetings on the second Tuesday each month, let me know and I’ll tell you where to find us.

Race Report

Happy New Year! Mark your calendar for August 7-9. Friday will be our annual Track Event, where you can take your car (solo, prepared, daily driver, whatever will pass tech inspection) on the beautiful Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, with a qualified coach to help you learn the track. Ample sessions will be offered – enough to wear you out and keep you grinning for days, maybe longer.

Saturday and Sunday will be dominated by SCCA Championship class races. We also expect to offer a 1-hour race, open to all safety compliant cars driven by competition licensed and NON-Comp license drivers alike.

If you wish to join us at planning and preparation meetings, let me know and I’ll get you information as to time and location. COMMITTEE MEMBERS NOTE – Our regular meeting place closed for business effective 12/30. I am actively searching for another suitable place and will certainly entertain suggestions. Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14.

2019 National Championship Runoffs (Updated:12/16/2019)

Updated on 12/16/2019
We are sorry that we missed our Timing and Scoring Team!
Carol Uller was the Chief of T&S crews, Pete Uller, Jon Goins and Sam Goins.

The 56th SCCA National Championship Runoffs was held at VIRginia International Raceway.

Cincinnati Region Driver Rob Bax qualified 8th, moving up from 9th on his second attempt.
He stumbled on the race start, dropping to 12th.
After lap 5, Rob began charging and picked his way back to a 7th place finish.

We are so proud of our workers!

Tim & Bobby Ross were working Tech, checking competitors fuel.

Sound was run by Cincy member Wayne Briggs.
It was only a two man team (as far as I could tell) with Harry Belizairs working the other half.

Bob Cowie was working course for the week.
He spent a lot of time on “Race Street”
Bob also presented the end of event toast dedicated to SCCA members who past.

Correction (12/16/2019):
Carol Uller was the Chief of T&S crews, Pete Uller, Jon Goins and Sam Goins.

Race Report

Scheduling is still tentative for the road racing, track event, time trial and bracket races in the Great Lakes Division, but things are coming together. So far on the schedule are three weekends that will provide for non-competition licensed drivers to put their safety compliant car on road courses in the division, and talks are still underway with Cendiv for additional opportunities.

Check out the cincyscca.com website for an article from one of Cincinnati Region’s own highly successful drivers, who recounts his experience at the Runoffs this year.

We strive to make our race, which will probably be August 7-9, better every year. Anyone with ideas or requests should let us know. We can ALWAYS use more hands-on-deck to make the load lighter for all. I travel to all the GLD races and I frequently overhear comments that Cincy puts on a great event and the membership comes out to support the region. I don’t take the credit for membership turnout, but I’m very proud of it. Join the fun!
