Solo Report

September was a very busy month for Cincy SCCA and our Solo members. We had great representation at the ProSolo finale Sep 1 & 2, the National Autocross Championships Sep 4 – 7, and LSFest in Bowling Green Sep 7-9. After all these marquee events, we also held our two Great Lakes Divisional Solo Series events on Sep 15 & 16. Unfortunately I do not have access to the results for any of these events, but our Cincy soloists represented us well in Nebraska with record number of entrants (>1400) under shall we say less than ideal conditions… okay, a deluge with easily 2-3″ of standing water throughout. Only one I remember off the top of my head is congrats to Shari McCoy who led CSL after day one but was bumped to second in the end – a fantastic first Nationals!!! Sorry for all those who I have forgotten, I will make it up to everyone next month once I can collect all the stats.

Our first Great Lakes Divisional events in many years were held at Traders World on Sep 15 & 16. We had 72 entrants on Sep 15 and 140 on Sep 16 with people coming in from all over the division. I really need to thank Myke Dziengel for chairing these events for me and my solo committee for making these two events go so well since I wasn’t able to be there at all Saturday and only minimally on Sunday. I got nothing but compliments from the competitors, many of whom travel to many other regions and national level events, about how well our events are run, how much fun/challenging the courses were, how large our novice program is, how friendly/helpful our members are, and how impressed they are with all our extras such as live timing, FM radio, unique trophies, etc. Many, many kudos to the team and entrants!!!

As to the remainder of the season, we are quickly approaching the end unfortunately as it has been a great year so far! We have our final two points events, PE#7 on Oct 7 and PE#8 on Oct 28. Year end points are awarded based on the competitor’s top five (5) events with a minimum of four (4) to qualify. Trophies are awarded based on number of competitors qualified by year end in each class using the standard formula of a trophy awarded for each 1, 4, 7, 10, 14, incremented by 4, etc qualifiers like we do at the events. (You can check your current standing on our Schedule and Results Page)

We also made changes to the huge Novice class by splitting it into two classes, one for street category cars (basically stock), and non-street class cars. Novice event points for this season are still going to be combined for year end, but this will give us the opportunity to provide better focus on the novices both during their run hears as well as their work heats. If this works as well as we believe it will, we will likely have two novice classes next year and the majority of the novices this year can help next season’s novices.

Solo: Changes to Novice Class Registration

We are happy to celebrate the great success with our novice program you’ve made possibly and would like to thank everyone who comes out and has #FunWithCars!

With such a large Novice Class entries, it is necessary to split them into two smaller groups to improve the opportunity to provide greater assistance during each heat.  Before we fully implement this concept next year, we’d like to give this concept a try during our last two events of the 2018 season.

For our PE7 (Oct. 7) and PE8 (Oct. 28) events, Novice class will be split into “Novice Street” (NS) and “Novice All Other” (NA).

Those who have basically stock cars which fit in a Street category base class (SS, AS, BS ~ GS, HS, etc) will be running “Novice Street”.  Note:  Street category allows aftermarket shocks, front OR rear swaybar change/removal, brake pads, and 200TW tires or higher.
If you have other modifications and would like to participate in our Novice Program, please select “Novice All Other”.

For this year, we will pilot the program by running two separate Novice class during the event, but the year end championship will be still be combined as one Novice program.
Next year (2019 Season), we will fully implement this two Novice Class concept potentially with separate championship points and trophies.

If you have any questions regarding our novice programs, please feel free to contact us at solo-novice@CincySCCA.com.

Solo Report

July was an interesting month for Cincy autocross with members attending and doing very well across the region.

It started with the Indy Region Great Lakes Div (GLDiv) Solo Series events at Grissom ARB in Peru, IN on Jun 30 and Jul 1 where Divya Viswalingam had her first event on concrete, the Bristol Champ and Match Tours from July 4-8 in Bristol, TN, the Goodguys event in Columbus, OH on July 6-8, the Corvette Troy event at KilKare Speedway in Xenia OH on July 8, the Fort Wayne Region GLDiv event at the Allen County War Museum and Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN on Jul 15, of course our event at Traders World on July 22, and the Western Ohio Region (WOR) event in Springfield, OH on July 29.
I highly encourage you to run other local events such as WOR SCCA, MVSCC, OVR SCCA, CKR SCCA, KYR SCCA, etc and the Great Lakes Divisional Series if you can’t make any of the National level events.

Now to our event on July 22nd at Traders World.

We did set-up on Sat beforehand attempting to dodge the rain showers but got drenched. Given the forecast, the course was changed from that posted to provide additional safety should it be under water as forecasted on Sunday
The forecast of certain doom and gloom of deluge and thunderstorms for Sunday had many people cancel their registrations or not show up Sunday which was a mistake in my opinion. I say that because we barely got a few random drops of rain during a change-over meaning the 101 entrants who did brave the forecast were rewarded with six dry runs and the opportunity for 45 mins of fun runs at the end of the day. Regular competition was completed with trophies finished by 3:30! I’ll thank our own James Elliott Roofing for installing an invisible roof over the entire course, paddock, and grid areas overnight Sat, how else could one explain why it stayed dry! Check out our live timing available via your cell phone anywhere and the on-site FM broadcast at your next event as they worked great.

The closest competition came down to the Street Open Index class of 18 entrants where Keith Koegler on his last run in his Ford Focus ST came from behind to edge out Jack Burns in his Honda Civic Type R by a mere 0.009 secs. Once again, the Novice class was the largest with 25 where the top two spots were a battle of Ford Fiesta STs with Daniel Gravett edging out David Bellanger for the top spot. Fastest time went to Christian Moist in his DM Birkin 7 with a time of 43.188. Fastest on Index with just 0.321 secs separating the top four and only 1.319 separating the top ten went to Keith Koegler in the Street Open class.

Our next event, PE 5, is Aug 19, again at Traders World with our Great Lake Div Solo Series events following Sep 15 and 16 (GLDiv/PE6). Register early for the events as they are likely to fill up quickly.

See you in August!
