Solo Report

Eek!  Only a little over one month away (40 days) from the start of the 2022 Cincy SCCA Solo Season!!!  In some ways I cannot believe the season is already here, in other ways I cannot wait because it seems it’s been forever since our last event!  Hope you and your car are ready or really hope you are more ready than I am…

In reality, the season has already been underway for your solo committee as we had a planning meeting last Sunday and will have a trailer cleaning/repair party this coming Sunday, March 6, at 10:00 @ Traders World (weather pending).  Let us know if you want to come out and help.

The Cincy SCCA 2022 Solo Schedule is now solidified.  Of course, just like last year there could be additions or weather related changes as the year goes on, but for now they are solid.  The schedule is posted to the solo page on our webpage, www.cincyscca.com.  Event information and registration links will be accessible from our webpage or on www.cincyscca.motorsportsreg.com.   Registrations will typically open on the Thursday six weeks before the event.

Our first event is a Test and Tune on Saturday, Apr 9, due to the limited entries for this event it will sell out quickly so do not delay once it opens.  Our second event, a fun event, is the next day, Sunday, Apr 10 which will have the more standard entry cap!  Registration will open this Thur at 8:00 pm.  Can’t wait to see everyone again soon!

2021 Year End Trophies – The majority of the year-end trophies are in (sorry, not all yet).  I will have them with me at the trailer cleaning/repair party this Sunday &/or at our events.  If you are wanting to come out to pick yours up this Sunday, please let me know in case we need to reschedule.

Race Report

Plans are coming together for our July 29-31 Race weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. We are offering a full menu of regional road racing, as well as an opportunity to put your street legal or solo car on the track. We plan to continue (and improve upon) the Time Trial option we started last year, and there is also an opportunity to participate in a 1-hour wheel to wheel race in your safety prepared car – even if you don’t have a competition license or your car is not set up to SCCA class specifications. Whatever your level of experience – from racecourse novice to national champion – there is a place for you during the Friday track day. In addition, we are excited to be a part of the H Production Nationwide Championship this year, as they are holding the “Mike Cummings H Production Invitational” in conjunction with the regional event. There is truly something for everyone.

We are always looking for volunteers to help with administration and also in the race support specialties, such as flagging, timing and scoring and grid. If driving fast is not your thing, but being around those who are driving fast is, this is your place to be. It’s fun to get up close and personal with the cars and drivers. We are planning to have our traditional worker picnic with door prizes and live entertainment.

Join us.

Area 4 Director Update for March, 2022

The racing season has already started in the warmer climes of our country….but, of course, not here.  With all due apologies to our RoadRally and RallyX friends who run around in the snow, its still way too damn cold to play with race cars (at least for me).

I hope everyone has registered for the divisional Spring meeting.  If so, I’ll see you there.  If you haven’t, please consider joining us in Fort Wayne on Saturday March 5th with a casual gathering the night before. You can register by following this link.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Last month I mentioned that there is a new path to getting your annual waiver.  You can now get it through the Member Account Portal (MAP).  Follow this link to get the instructions.  There is also a story about the program here.  I’ve done it and it takes only a couple of minutes. Be prepared to upload a headshot picture of yourself.

The various national schedules for 2022 are starting to coalesce and they can be found here:

Pro Solo/National Tour, Time Trials National Tour, Hoosier Super Tour, Enduro.

Video Conference Meetings:

  • Club Racing Board (CRB) (2/1):  The CRB is dealing with a lot of “balance of performance” (BoP) requests from the BSpec community.  We spent a lot of time wresting with how to equilibrate the class.  The results can be seen here.
  • Electrified Vehicle Advisory Committee (EVAC) (2/9):  Our SCCA National Convention presentation went very well.  We thought that for a weekday afternoon time slot, we had pretty good attendance.  There were over 100 who attended “live” and twice that have watched the recording of the presentation since then.  If you’re interested, its available to viewing on YouTube at this link.  Our regular meeting continued working on various rules packages and laying out the steps for implementation.
  • EVAC (2/15):  We had an additional meeting to work on additional language for our EV wiring protocol.  This was a couple of hours of VERY esoteric stuff.  Mind numbingly boring…..but necessary.
  • EVAC (2/24):  A couple of us from the EVAC had a side meeting with Peter Jankovskis (BoD Chair) and Steve Strickland (BoD Vice Chair) to iron out some feedback they had gotten from some of the program boards.  Most were simple misunderstandings of the intent and once we discussed it, all apprehensions were erased.
  • BoD (2/28):  As it’s so close to the end of the month, I’ll report on this meeting in my next update.

SCCA Events:

  • As the competition season is over for most of our specialties, I did not attend any SCCA events this past month.  I have updated my calendar on the GLDiv website with events I’d like to go to this season.  Click here to see where I’ll be this summer.  All that is about to change as I head to Fort Wayne for the divisional meeting on 3/4, 3/5.  After that, I’ll be off to VIR for a Major race there in early April (and a visit to my brother who lives close by the track).

Just a quick reminder, if any region out there wants to have an “Ask the Director” session during your monthly meetings, please do not hesitate to contact me so we can schedule a visit.  I retired last summer so have plenty of free time and would thoroughly enjoy the chance to visit with your members.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you may have about any facet of the GLDiv. I want you to make the most of your membership and I will help out in any way possible to make that happen.

Solo: Waivers

For sure everyone’s working hard getting their car ready for the 2022 season, not procrastinating until the last weekend to do all the work you planned for your winter project! You have almost one month left to get your car ready, as well as get your Annual Waiver ready!

If you are over 18, and good standing SCCA Member, you can apply for the Annual Waiver!

By applying for the Annual waiver, you will no longer need to sign either the paper waiver or the Speed waiver at our or ANY SCCA Sanctioned Events, including the ones hosted by other SCCA Regions, National Events etc.

It can be done online and it’s very easy!

  1. Log in with your SCCA Member # at my.scca.com
  2. Go to Online Store – Licenses & Waivers
  3. Add “Annual Waiver Adult” license to cart
  4. Be prepared to upload a photo of yourself
  5. Follow the prompts at the top right of the screen
  6. Complete checkout

Once competed successfully, you will receive a confirmation email from the SCCA Membership Office. The annual membership is good for the calendar year, and all you need to do is to show your card at the Waiver Gate.

If you are a minor, your parents need to complete “Annual Waiver Minor Parents Consent” first, and then complete the “Annual Waiver Minor” after that.

For detailed instructions for BOTH adult and minor annual waivers, please see this following page.
In middle of this article, there is a link to the Full instructions for the Annual Waiver.
https://www.scca.com/articles/2015690-scca-membership-cards-and-annual-waivers-now-available-digitally

Note: We will continue offering Speed Waiver for Non-SCCA Members as well. If you have any questions about the Solo Waiver Procedure, please feel free to contact us.

Solo Report

Welcome to February! The off-season is zooming by already. We have our solo schedule 99% set for this year, unfortunately there are conflicts with other events I was hoping to avoic, but doing the best we can for the majority of our Cincy autocross family. You can check out our schedule and an “area schedule” on the CincySCCA.com website which includes events from nearby regions, Great Lakes Solo Series, SCCA National events, and other major events.

Of course our 2021 Season Banquet is this coming Sat, Feb 5, where we will be awarding the 2021 Year-End Solo Series awards along with great door prizes, regional level trophies, and great camaraderie. BY now you have missed the sign up for the meal, but you can still attend and pick up your trophy if you contact the organizer. Along that line, if you cannot make it, please try to make arrangements for someone who is going to pick up your trophy if at all possible.

Other than that, our first event of the season is a Test and Tune Apr 9th with a fun event on Apr 10th. It will be here sooner than you think, look forward to seeing everyone there!

Area 4 Director Update for February, 2022

Wow…. January was quite a month for me.….so much for the “off season”.  The holidays were nice as the OU Sooners and MSU Spartans both won their bowl games.  In addition to the usual monthly fare, I was tasked with preparing a presentation for the SCCA National Convention on the Electrified Vehicle Advisory Committee (EVAC).  As a sales rep, I’m used to speaking to folks but doing it via Zoom was different and I was nervous leading up to doing it.  It turned out great and you can view the session on YouTube by clicking here.

Elsewhere in the Division, in case you missed it last month, it bears repeating that our divisional Spring meeting will be on Saturday March 5th with a casual gathering the night before. Details will be announced as they are finalized on the GLDiv website.

Last month I mentioned that there is a new path to getting your annual waiver.  You can now get it through the Member Account Portal (MAP).  Follow this link to get the instructions.  There is also a story about the program here.  I’ve done it and it takes only a couple of minutes. The various national schedules for 2022 are starting to coalesce and they can be found here:

Pro Solo/National Tour, Time Trials National Tour, Hoosier Super Tour, Enduro.

Video Conference Meetings:

  • Club Racing Board (CRB) (1/4): The CRB has a new Chair this year and he wants to run things a little differently.  This change in structure meant we had more time to discuss topics on a deeper level.  The results can be seen here.
  • Electrified Vehicle Advisory Committee (EVAC) (1/12): Our discussion on rules sets, track relationships and safety continued.  We continued to work on the convention presentation.
  • BoD (1/24): Our meeting was pretty standard fare.  Unfortunately, in addition to the usual stuff, we had to discuss a couple of member complaint letters that were sent to the CRB.  The writers made allegations that needed to be discussed at the highest levels.  As this is a sensitive topic, I cannot elaborate here.  We also discussed the IT tire rule.  I lead the charge against making this change.  It was too broad and we asked the CRB to try again.
  • EVAC SCCA Convention Presentation (1/27): The EVAC was asked to give a presentation during the convention about what we’ve accomplished and where we’re heading.  To view it, click here.

SCCA Events:

  • As the competition season is over for most of our specialties, I did not attend any SCCA events this past month. I have updated my calendar on the GLDiv website with events I’d like to go to this season.  Click here to see where I’ll be this summer.
